Appearance :
The Great Dane is known for its regal appearance, dignity, strength, and elegance with grand size and a well-formed body. This is one of the largest working breeds and never appears clumsy. The male appear more massive throughout than the female, with larger frame and heavier bone. In the ratio between length and height, the Great Dane should be square. In females, a somewhat longer body is permissible, providing she is well proportioned to her height.

Height:
The male measures not less than 30 inches (76 cm) at the shoulders, but it is preferable that he should be 32 inches (81 cm) or more. While the female shall not be less than 28 inches (71 cm) at the shoulders, but it is preferable that she be 30 inches (76 cm). A long neck and narrow head is a peculiar trait of Dane.

Temperament :
The breed is world-famous for its large and imposing appearance. It is often referred to as a Gentle Giant due to its friendly nature unlike its physical appearance. Great Danes are generally well-disposed toward other dogs, other non-canine pets, and humans. As with all dogs, they should be supervised around young children. Great Danes are protective in nature and can be trained as good guard dogs.
